Last week’s investment round news was a big milestone for us. Series C funding allows us to hire the best talent, and those that jive with Cyanogen’s mission to bring more choice to users of our commercial distribution, Cyanogen OS. Getting to this stage had our team focused around devices we were shipping, in-house development, and fixing platform bugs within the open source community project, CyanogenMod (CM). Our engineers worked on the CM project daily not only as part of their job description, but a majority of our engineers voluntarily spent their free time contributing code to CM.
This is all in recognition of the CyanogenMod open source community who dedicates valuable time, effort and energy in creating the best Android experiences and helping us bring those to a global scale.
Our company’s roots are in the open source project, and we want to continue to contribute and strengthen those ties. We want to do even more. So, I’m excited to share the formation of a new team inside Cyanogen, which will be dedicated to CyanogenMod. With the creation of this team, we are:
  • planning to support CM on even more Android devices; donating devices to veteran and new maintainers
  • developing additional ways for contributors and app developers to build cool things on CM
  • improving developer documentation
  • funding other community resources (buildbots, translations, etc)
  • organizing meetups and events to get together with community members and users
Abhisek Devkota (ciwrl), a familiar name and face to many within our developer community, will be heading up this new team.
While we pursue our commercial OS aspirations, we also want to scale up our support for the CM community. As we build out this new open source team, we’ll introduce them on our blog, so you can get to know them. Stay tuned! If you’re interested in joining us, we currently have Community ManagerCommunity Integration Engineer, and Quality Assurance Engineer positions open.
